The Artist Statement
The central theme of the Amber project in Nanjichang symbolizes the artist’s intention to preserve this vanishing neighborhood, much like amber encapsulates and preserves memories. As Nanjichang is the artist’s hometown, returning to this place to create art signifies the awakening of childhood memories.
Artist collected photos taken by their family in Nanjichang, scanned and deconstructed the images by dispersing the pixels. These deconstructed images were then projected onto the scanned point cloud of the Nanjichang space. By repositioning the angles of the photos, the artist attempts to preserve the landscapes of memory.
